Originally Bob wanted a radical custom made out of this completely stock and
original 41. Finances changed and we did a quick restoration on a very solid and
original car.
This is one of the profiles we were looking at for this
unit. A 3" chop and a possible 1" wedge out of the hood. Even looked
at a 5" chop in the rear.
The interior was actually in very good condition other than
the seats. Door panels were merely cleaned and reused.
Just an idea of the rust we encountered. This is a rocker
panel.
Another shot of the rockers with the stainless pulled back.
The RR quarter had an interesting hole and lots of work to
get it right.
This shows the rear quarter panel with the fender removed
and the rocker stainless removed.
Here is the backside of the rocker panels.
Rear fenders and the mounting flange is gone. Same on the
quarter panel.
Flat head V8? Ford was not the first. This baby has
hydraulic lifters and runs like a fine watch, we did nothing but clean the
carb. Only 48,000 on this unit.
A close up of the taillight pot metal. Most of the pot metal
needed work, but was salvageable.
Most of the chrome laid out. We had planned on re-chroming
all of this but money shortfall changed the plan.
The interior had a wood grain appliqué. We did noting with
the dash as it was in great shape.
The new rocker panels have been fitted. Note the relief cuts
to get the arch correct for the stainless to fit.
Here the outside rocker has been installed but not the back
side.
The fenders are straight and rockers are on, making
progress.
This shows the fender mount flange rebuilt and ready for
final body work. Almost the entire mount flange was replaced.
The final black paint and clear coat have been applied, The
picture does not do justice.
This is the rear with black and clear coat being color
sanded with 2000 grit then it will be buffed.
Once the paint was done Billy Phillips got to do his thing.
This is a nice trunk restored to original condition.
The interior is done. New front and rear seat covers and
carpet, the rest was just cleaned!
Assembled and rolled out the door. Note the wide whites and
rear fender skirts.
65 SS Impala 396 alongside.
One nice unit, very straight and very black.
Here is Kelly who did most of the work on the unit to get it
straight.
Bob ended up selling the Caddy on Ebay, gentleman from KY
got it and think he got wet pants when he saw the car he had bought??
