| The
first area we started on was replacement of the cowl supports which
had rotted away. |
 |
| The
cowl supports are replaced, side panels repaired or replaced, cowl
light mounts are added. |
 |
| Here
the cowl is roughed out and ready for final block sanding prior to
paint. |
 |
| This
rear fender well doesn't look so bad! Then we found........ |
 |
| Plenty
of fiberglass and filler along with brazing on the rotted metal. A
patch job, not a repair. |
 |
| The
right side was no different. The entire bottom 3" strip was
replaced as well as patch panels on the front quarters on each side. |
 |
| With
the new metal in place and a water proof sealer prior to filler. This
should last the next 20 years. |
 |
| Along
with the wheel wells the rear corners were gone. Patch panels were
ordered and welded in. |
 |
| Here
is the rear pan. Is that a rivet? No it's a barn nail driven in to
hold the rust together! |
 |
| An
inside shot of the rear pan with high tech nail support. A new rear
pan was ordered, without nail. |
 |
| Rear
corners are done and ready for final blocking. Any filler is paper
thin. |
 |
| The
front and rear fenders are blocked out to see what is needed. Again,
filler is paper thin. Usually block fenders 3-4 times. |
|
| This
is some of the old filler. We find many people do not take it down far
enough. A couple of block sandings and ready for paint. |
 |
| The
doors and rear deck prepped for final blocking. |
 |
| We
had some concerns about door and deck fitting. Bolted the body on the
frame. Plastic between the frame and body for masking. |
 |
| Doors
fit. Rear deck needed more work to fit right. Pulled quarter panel and
still modified deck lid to fit. |
 |
| Here
is what we like to see. Fresh paint, PPG Global base clear. |
 |
| Another
shot of the new paint. |
 |
| Bob
the owner was drooling on this one. Really liked that he can see
himself in the paint. |
 |
| Here
is the final product. After a week of assembly and final detail. A
trophy winner!! |
