Here is the car as we received it. Chopped 3" but not filled
and the fire wall out with no floor. |
The top channel was cleaned and straighten. A bar of 1/2
square tube was laid around the perimeter and shimmed to height. |
The bows were bent to the same dimension as the wood bows
and tacked in place. |
The rear bows are installed as well as the front. Enough
space for a 16 gauge sheet to but flush with the existing roof is left. |
A single sheet of 16 gauge steel is laid on. We screwed it
to the front and down the center. Relief cuts are made on top of the bows to
make the arch. |
Here the top is fitted and screwed down. |
Top is removed as we will use an adhesive (3M Panel Bond) on
all the bows to prevent any squeak or movement. |
Once welded on all around the perimeter, the rough body work
is done, This is a paper thin coat of filler. |
We found some rust issues in the frame mounts and needed to
address them before we proceeded. |
This shows one body mount repaired. |
We also welded some frame and other body areas to add some
strength. |
Here is the sub structure we put in under the floor to help
hold the 16 gauge floor panels. |
Back floor is installed, welded and ground smooth. |
The front floor and firewall required several pieces to fit
the Chevy Small Block that was going in. |
Tim wanted AC (hot in AL) and wanted the condenser in front
of the radiator. The new walker was with the car and we added about 1.5" to
the shell to accommodate the condenser. |
The fire wall and in place and room for a small block Chevy.
The unit as it was delived to Tim for him to finish. |
The 3" gives it a nice profile and it is now one solid all
steel body!! |
